The Charity of Hope Scholarship Opportunity is part of the One Wall. One Cause youth leadership movement, a program that brings our community back to where it all began — the handball courts of the YMCA.

Through partnerships with Hamilton public and Catholic school boards, sixteen students are selected annually to participate in a leadership and handball training program that builds confidence, discipline, teamwork, and mentorship skills. As students grow, they become leaders who help teach and inspire younger youth in the community, creating a powerful cycle of youth empowering youth.

Through the program, eligible participants may be considered for a Charity of Hope Leadership Scholarship of up to $500. Students who demonstrate exceptional leadership, commitment, and community impact may also be considered for an enhanced scholarship award, assessed annually by Charity of Hope. Scholarship awards are not guaranteed and depend on program participation, evaluation criteria, and available funding.

At the Handball for Hope signature event, participants have an opportunity to be recognized and celebrated for their dedication, achievements, and contributions to their community.

What began 26 years ago as a simple act of kindness on the YMCA handball courts has now come full circle — transforming sport into leadership, leadership into opportunity, and opportunity into meaningful, lasting impact for youth in our city.

Join the YMCA Youth Leadership Program designed for high school and university students eager to learn the fundamentals of one wall handball. Participants will train twice a week for one hour, developing not only their athletic skills but also leadership abilities and confidence.
